CSU Recreation Jiu-Jitsu
When and where
Mondays and Wednesdays, September 21–December 9, 2026, 7–8:30 p.m. Mountain time.
CSU Rec Mat Room (Second Floor). Be ready to begin at 7. No class November 23 or 25.
What to wear and bring
Wear clean, fitted athletic clothing with supportive underlayers. Skin coverage is encouraged except for the head, hands, and feet. A long-sleeve rash guard and full-length spats or leggings are good options.
A mouthguard and grappling shorts without pockets or Velcro are recommended. Bring water.
Hygiene
Class policy: train barefoot. Wear shoes or sandals whenever off the mats, including restroom trips. Keep feet clean and nails trimmed.
Wash training clothes after each use and shower after training. Stay home when sick or with a suspected skin infection. Seek medical advice and follow return-to-training guidance. See CDC athlete hygiene guidance.
Class policy: no training with open wounds, even when covered.
Accessories
Remove eyeglasses during training, dangling jewelry, and metal rings. Athletic cups are prohibited. Silicone rings are permitted.
Partner safety
- Anyone may decline a partner or stop training. Communicate injuries and limits.
- Tap early, physically or verbally. Release immediately when a partner taps or asks to stop.
- Control movement and adjust intensity to your partner. Allow room to learn without constant unsolicited coaching.
- Stop and reset before colliding with another pair. Return lifted partners to the mat under control.
Further discussion: Danaher's training-safety discussion.
